Objectives
EnDurCrete Project is to develop a new cost-effective sustainable reinforced concrete for long lasting and added value applications.
New cost-effective sustainable reinforced concrete for long lasting added value applications.
The concept is based on the integration of new low clinker cement, including high-value industrial by-products, new nano and micro technologies and hybrid systems ensuring increased durability of sustainable concrete structures with high mechanical properties, self-healing and self-monitoring capabilities. It will smart integrate unprecedented highly innovative insulations and renewable energy technologies, with breakthrough features based on nano-formulated VIP, PCM, flexible thin glass perovskite solar cells and multi-functional nano-enabled coatings.
Novel technologies and tools of Endurcrete concept such as:
Novel cement, New smart fillers based on nano-modified clays, Advanced non-destructive continuous monitoring and testing tools and procedures, New multifunctional coatings, Concrete non-metallic multifunctional reinforcing systems and Coupled experimental and computational approach for the theoretical and experimental understanding of factors affecting durability.
DEMONSTRATION
Demonstrators are tested in working sites of tunnels, ports, and offshore structures, in order to prove the enhanced durability (+40%, i.e. +30 years) and decreased cost (-35%) of the new concrete systems in such critical applications. Innovation aspects such as standardization, life cycle assessments, health and safety and training activities will be performed.
Puerto de Musel, in Gijón - North of Spain, located in a small wharf in the North of the port where our partner ACCIONA is currently carrying out research works, EnDurCrete specimens are held by metallic structures.
Demonstrator located at Fundación Santa Bárbara, La Ribera del Folgoso, Leon - North of Spain, 7 panels (2 of them 4 meters long) are installed.
Krk Bridge, Croatia, North Adriatic Sea in Croatia, the bridge has been built between 1976 and 1980, and since then it is suffering from durability corrosion problems mostly caused by corrosion of reinforcement. The exposure classes of the bridge are specimens subjected to splashes of water, specimens subjected to tidal cycles, specimens totally submerged.
Offshore structure in Norway demonstrators is specimens not in contact with water, specimens subjected to splashes of water, specimens totally underwater.
